Over 20.2 million North Americans suffer from Diabetes. Diabetes has a history of slowly deteriorating its patients with a variety of related illnesses, such as Blindness, Cardio-vascular disease, Kidney disease , Erectile difficulties and Amputations. If you take into account the illnesses, that have diabetes as the underlying cause, diabetes becomes one of the leading causes of death. It is a silent killer, it is the most ignored disease mankind knows because, you do not see it and you do not feel it.

“Prevention” is the most important single word in regard to diabetes self-management. Diabetic complications must be avoided at any cost; proper diet, exercise, medication and insulin are great ways of controlling diabetes.

One thing that has been overlooked is the condition of the skin and the subcutaneous tissue that is used for the administration of the insulin. With that at heart, a small group of Insulin Dependent Diabetics realized (in 1985) that with every insulin injection at the injection site, tissue damage occurred. Proper insulin absorption into healthy tissue and even distribution throughout the body is a very good way of helping diabetics improve the management of this disease. For this reason, doctors, diabetes educators and health care professionals advise their patients to rotate injection sites. This enables the blood sugar to remain in the normal range and ultimately reduces the complications arising from diabetes and prolongs a diabetic’s life.

However, keeping count of the previously used injection sites in a given injection area is very often neglected. To separate a new injection site and at the same time avoid the sites used for recent injections is very important. This allows the tissue time to heal before the patient administers another injection in the same site. It takes about four to six weeks for the damaged tissue to heal properly and it is difficult to remember where a needle was inserted yesterday, let alone last month.

With that knowledge, the decision was made to develop a device to assist this group of Insulin Dependent Diabetics, and other diabetics, to better control their injection sites. Now eighteen years and seventeen prototypes later, the project has been completed. Having used their own bodies as test sites, the group discovered that by using the “Injection Locator” they achieved a smooth insulin absorption and even insulin distribution throughout the body. The “Injection Locator” is now being marketed by, Three R’s Product Development Corporation in Delta, British Columbia . Yope van Kaauwen, Director of Operations for Three R’s has diabetes himself. “When I was diagnosed (in 1985) with Insulin Dependent Diabetes, my Doctor said I would be in the hospital to stabilize my blood sugar levels a few times a year, and I’m happy to say; I have not been in the hospital ever since because I was able to stabilize my blood sugar levels myself throughout the years ”. Using the “Injection Locator” contributed towards this success.

The “Injection Locator” is a totally new and unique device in the field of diabetes management and control. The “Injection Locator” is a tremendous help to Insulin Dependent Diabetics, permitting them to stipulate the exact choice of one of many hundreds of injection sites with ease and rapidity, resulting in a consistent and systematic rotation of the sites of their insulin injections. Dr. R. J. Clerk from the Netherlands comments, “I’ve cared for patients with diabetes for years, but now I can be sure that between visits they are able to stay in control of their diabetes; this simple tool makes it so easy.”

The “Injection Locator” helps diabetics evenly space their injection sites one inch (2.5 cm} apart enabling the insulin to be properly absorbed and evenly distributed throughout the body. This in turn allows it to be the most effective way in keeping the Diabetics blood glucose within the normal range. It’s easy to avoid yesterdays or last week’s injection site, because all that’s needed is the date. This unique device was developed by Diabetics for Diabetics. This – non-invasive - incredibly simple and easy to use compliance tool, allows the patient the freedom to use it anywhere, anytime because it’s lightweight and portable.

Using the Injection Locator is simple and easy. Within five seconds a diabetic patient chooses an injection site out of 186 available sites in the Upper legs and Abdomen stretching the healing time for the tissue to six months, based on one injection a day. If the diabetic patient has assistance from someone else to administer the insulin injections, other areas may also be used including Upper Arms, Lower Back or Buttocks, stretching the healing time for the tissue to an additional seven months, based on one injection a day. This system creates a total of 403 different injection sites.

All diabetics on insulin, who are currently struggling to balance their glucose levels, or are "running out of injection sites”, will have long term benefits with the use of the Injection Locator to avoid or at least delay the onset of diabetic complications. With the use of this device they will be able to make their lives easier.

The “Injection Locator” is also very helpful for patients who administer subcutaneous injections for such ailments as Multiple Scleroses, particular types of Cancers, certain Allergies and Hepatitis C.
